Dear Diary,

It was another cold winter day in the midwest and I decided to go for a long drive. A day trip to Bayfield, Wisconsin where I could hop on the ferry like a local in this northern part of the state to explore the new sights sounded like a good idea. I was inspired by recent photos I had seen of the Apostle Islands, which is why I decided to casually trek a 5.5 hour one way (10 hour round trip) into new territoryΒ where I discovered for the first time a quaint little island hugging the shores of Lake Superior–Madeline Island.Β My niece’s name is Madeline, so it was an endearing thought to visit an island with her namesake. I hoped to share with her later there was a place named after her.
So here I was. The great Lake Superior was frozen. The air was frosty. The bright white snow coated town beamed as the sun shined beautifully upon it.Β
To get to Madeline Island, the Island Queen ferry was readily transporting passengers to and from Bayfield, Wisconsin. There was not much activity other than a few townsfolk coming and going. There was also a little snow bunny and fox that scurried along, but that was the extent of the action on this day trip. I didn’t reach Apostle Islands and needed to return by the night, so stopped my adventures here at Madeline Island and returned back to the mainlands. Still exciting and worth the venture for me though on my journey in this area of the world I don’t quite find myself in often.
