Dear Diary,
Colorful patterns, flashing bright lights, slot machines everywhere, and extravagant structures hang from the high ceilings at Washington’s newest casino, the Emerald Queen. While the Emerald Queen actually first established its operations on a riverboat in 1996, this week on June 8, 2020 the Puyallup Tribe (owner and operators) opened its doors to this newly constructed Las Vegas glitz style casino. What a show!
The Emerald Queen is located at the mouth of the Puyallup River in Tacoma along Washington state’s I-5 highway corridor overlooking Commencement Bay, south of Seattle and north of Olympia. I do not frequent casinos, simply because I am not one to roll the dice often, but after seeing this gigantic construction project develop from traveling through the area the past few years, I was drawn in. I am also fascinated with this development because casinos can be quite impressive economic powerhouses. You can add the bonus that casinos are almost like adult carnivals supplied with food, entertainment, and sometimes jackpots of cash if the odds are in your favor.

- Everything at this place was brand spankin’ new!
- The casino offers a wide variety in dining options from the Summit Sports Bar to the Riverbank Buffet and Puyalapabs Café
- Ambiance of the Puyalapabs Café feels cozy with a fireplace…I can imagine myself here having brunch with the girls or an intimate Friday night dinner
- All furnishings are chic and modern with hints of tribal influence honoring the aboriginal traditions of the Puyallup people.. I love that
- The cocktail bars give off a snazzy feel plus, they come with a view of the Port of Tacoma
- Luxurious seating areas are provided with full beverage service
- The Summit Sports Bar would be a great place to watch seasonal sports one of these days
- The Paddle Wheel Cafe offers a strong brew and sweets provided by Seattle’s local coffee company Caffé D’arte
- This would be a great place to host a convention or business meeting with the auditorium and recital hall
- The Emerald Queen is now upgraded for future live music events
Walking through this new venue, it was impossible to ignore the pulse and excitement of this place. Anxious winners sat at tables and money slot machines. The design and lay out of the place caters to different preferences of food and moods. I am excited to see and hear about upcoming events here, especially the possible musicians that a new location like this can attract.
Because COVID-19 has not cleared from the public’s radar, as crowds trickled in, individuals were all still expected to practice social distancing. Guests must wear face masks. Hand washing is emphasized. Sanitation of the facilities are implemented. Free gloves are provided upon entrance. I personally did not touch one machine or play any games though. Perhaps, I can try my hand with luck another day.
Over all, everything seemed shine in this brand new venue. It was an amusing stroll through the Emerald Queen Casino.
Hope you all enjoyed my highlights of this new place. Check them out for yourself if you’re ever down yonder, south of the Puget Sound.
